Gerry Duggan and Phil Noto are incredibly talented creators. That is without question. What is in question is the fascination with taking a grizzled war vet and making him young and hot. Marvel did it with X-Man in the 90s and they continue to do it will teen Cable. Old Man Cable, of course, was yeeted out of his body by his younger self in Ed Brisson & Pepe Larraz’s Extermination back in 2018. This babyfaced brat decided to bring his dead back from the dead before taking a gap year in eastern Europe with X-Force.
Now, however, he’s headlining his own book with Gerry Duggan and Phil Noto. They promise monsters, space prophecies, romance, and of course, explosions. Not to mention appearances by Pixie and Armor, who are currently showing up in New Mutants. What this means for that book is anyone’s guess, but hopefully more Glob Herman.
This book is coming in March 2020, but how long can it last? When Marvel tried replacing Iron Man with his cool teen version, things got so bad they had to do a Heroes Reborn. Hopefully this team can avoid that fate with Cable #1.
