Back to the past, back to the future in previews of Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X #1

Classic costumes. Fastball Specials. A team-on-the-Blackbird scene. What is this, 1975 through 1991?

Yup. We’re going back. Won’t be long now before the softball scene.

Marvel has released unlettered previews of January’s Fall of the House of X #1 and Rise of the Powers of X #1, the two five-issue event series that are expected to put a bow on the Krakoan age. The Fall pages look about as back-to-basics X-Men as you can get, with a strike team consisting of Wolverine, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Shadowkat, Rogue and Gambit, plus scenes of Cyclops being put on trial for his crimes against humanity and Xavier still sporting his island depression beard. You can pretty much hear the 1990s animated series music as you look it over.

The Rise pages, though, that’s where things get interesting. R.B. Silva’s cover gives us a team consisting of Wolverine, Synch in a Professor X-style hoverchair, Ms. Marvel in the Captain Krakoa costume, Iron Man (still in the stealth suit) and … a giant Shadowkat with Apocalypse-gray skin? It also gives us glimpses of Nimrod, Omega Sentinel and evil robot Moira.

Obviously, it’s too early to know what’s going on in either book, but for now, appreciate this Lucas Werneck (Fall) and Silva (Rise) art, and keep scrolling for the basic deets.
