Hellion busts out in our EXCLUSIVE preview of Marvel’s NYX #8

Once again, NYX proves itself to be the series most willing to engage with the Krakoan era as part of a larger discussion about what mutant society looks like now.

In doing so, next week’s issue flashes back to Crucible, the space where mutants on Krakoa were given the chance to die in battle for the purpose of being resurrected and restored to full power. This was a means of dealing with all of the mutants who’d been depowered on M-Day but who’d never died in the interim. Perhaps you read the beautiful story about Aero’s experience with Apocalypse in the Crucible in 2020’s X-Men #7.

Still, some mutants are just little shits. Julian Keller, aka Hellion, aka The Krakoan, is one of them. Did he deserve the majesty of Crucible? Does he deserve forgiveness after the events of the first arc of this book? Do the traumas of the Academy X era absolve him of his bad behaviors? It looks like this issue will dive into some of that.

Check out a preview of NYX #8, out next week, and keep scrolling for the basic deets.

THE THIN LINE BETWEEN LOVE AND HATE…

Powerful. Troubled. Intense. He was HELLION and she was X-23 – two kids, more similar than different, battling a cruel world. Now Julian Keller’s calling himself THE KRAKOAN, the proud new face of mutant terrorism. Laura Kinney is WOLVERINE, stalking silently from the shadows trying to keep mutants safe. They’re about to come face-to-face: with each other, with the past and with what they’ve become. And one thing is for sure: They’re not kids anymore.
