First, the silly bit: This preview contains a panel in which two shirtless men put a blanket on a fully clothed woman. Granted, that woman was attacked by an ice dragon in the previous issue, but still, there’s an irony there.
Now that that’s out of the way, if you like the panel on the previous page that introduces the early protectors of Haven House, allow me to strongly suggest you check out Bitter Root by Sanford Greene, David F. Walker and Chuck Brown. The Image Comics series follows the Sangeryes, a family of monster hunters operating during the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s. The original series ran for 15 issues and has been collected in three trades or one omnibus. A second series, Bitter Root: The Next Movement, set during the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, dropped this March and will run for five issues. If you liked Greene’s art on Marvel’s recent Doom one-shot with Jonathan Hickman, imagine him turned loose on his own creations.
