Marvel ramped up to Comic-Con this month by announcing X-Men: Age of Revelation, a sweeping event beginning in October that will remake not just the X-line but will draw in a number of major Marvel players including Spider-Man, the Avengers, Deadpool, Iron Man, and Cloak and Dagger.
The basic pitch: 10 years in the future, Doug Ramsey, as the heir of Apocalypse Revelation, has remade the world, or at least the eastern half of the United States, in his image. After an Overture issue Oct. 1, 17 new books will launch exploring the concept via your favorite characters.
Covers for the comics revealed so far appear to account for a number of marquee mutants, including ones not heavily spotlighted during the From the Ashes era. Present and accounted for are Cyclops, Magneto, Beast, Gambit, Rogue, Storm, Glob Herman, Quentin Quire, Havok, Mister Sinister, Zorn, Psylocke, Wolverine (Logan and Laura, though she’s using a different codename, and a different character is using the Wolverine codename), Ms. Marvel, Mystique, Colossus, Emma Frost, Bishop, Omega Red, Fantomex, Dani Moonstar and Cannonball.
We also see two of the three kids from Exceptional X-Men, two of the adult-activated mutants from X-Men but, interestingly enough, no named or shown Outliers from Uncanny X-Men.
That’s probably not anything to worry about, though. If you’ll recall the Timeslide one-shot from December, Cable and Bishop encountered an adult Bronze amid the Age of Revelation, who mentions being in contact with Jitter.
Retailers were given a surprise #0 issue last week to drive hype for the story.
Like the Age of Apocalypse before it, Age of Revelation will shut down all of the ongoing X-titles and relaunch them with new names and new #1s, though it will largely keep the current iteration of X-writers, including Jed MacKay, Gail Simone, Eve Ewing, Stephanie Phillips, Erica Schultz, Saladin Ahmed, Murewa Ayodele, Jason Loo and David Marquez (moving from art to writing duties on Sinster’s Six).
It also brings back some familiar faces from the Krakoan era, including former Head of X Jonathan Hickman and Gerry Duggan teaming up on Longshots, and Al Ewing and Steve Foxe contributing to a one-shot anthology called World of Revelation that explores the Age of Doug’s effects on the wider corners of the Marvel Universe.
