A common in-story complaint about Bobby Drake is that he’s not living up to his potential, like a perennial high school slacker who graduated from high school 60 years ago.
And while he’s certainly keyed far more into his powers these days, one wonders whether No. 6 on the call sheet in a young-mutants-in-training book is the right spot for an omega-level mutant and original-five X-man.
Call it a symptom of there being too many dingdang mutants. Call it a symptom of Chris Claremont wanting nothing to do with Bobby in the ’80s. Heck, call it all the best X-Men are women, but it seems difficult to find a spot for ol’ Iceman beyond “mutant who does all the quippy Spider-Man bits.”
But he’s capable. Iceman’s had five solo series up to this point, which theoretically means he can carry a book. Maybe he’ll have something important to do in Age of Revelation.
Just as soon as he stops slackin’.
