This week’s X-Men #22 ended with Cyclops getting a headache. It turns out he was about to engage in that time-honored X-Men tradition, PSYCHIC TIME TRAVEL!
This preview of next week’s X-Men: Age of Revelation Overture #1 shows Scott waking up 10 years in the future, surrounded by a random assortment of mutant resistance members, including castoffs from other titles like Forge (X-Force) and Angel (X-Factor – y’think he can still turn into a buzzsaw?).
This isn’t Scott’s first time travel rodeo. He and Jean Grey were pulled to the far future to raise baby Cable in The Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix, and back in time to witness the birth of Mister Sinister in The Further Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix. Oh, and of course teen Cyclops and the rest of the O-5 got pulled to the present and spent way too much time there.
There may be more examples, but the point is, Scott gets around the timestream, so it makes sense that it wouldn’t take him too much time to adjust to his new surroundings in an Age … of Revelation.

The preview picks up directly after X-Men #22’s startling cliffhanger as Cyclops awakens X YEARS LATER! His mind brought forward in time by a ragtag group of future X-men, Cyclops beholds the tragic consequences of his decision to allow Revelation onto the team. But he’ll have little time for regret as he’s been chosen to lead the final strike against Revelation’s reign! The knowledge Cyclops gains during the saga will greatly impact the decisions he makes on behalf of mutantkind when the X-Men titles return to present day in SHADOWS OF TOMORROW, a new era beginning in January.
“We’ve hit Cyclops pretty hard over the last year and change- but nothing has compared to the wringer we’re about to put him through,” MacKay explained. “Cyclops is in a situation with uncertain allies, limited planning capacity and zero control- and no guarantee of victory with these changed X-Men he finds himself amongst. And that? That’s when these characters are at their most exciting.”
