EXCLUSIVE: Check out these covers to AHOY’s Toxic Avenger Comics #5 and think about justice

Now, more than ever, we are all the Toxic Avenger. A bunch of weirdos, hideously deformed by a cruel, uncaring system, who have chosen to strap on our tutu, pick up our mop and seek justice through unhinged vigilantism.

In an age where nearly every 30-50-year-old property has been licensed into a comic (Wild West C.O.W.-Boys of Moo Mesa? What a time to be alive), AHOY Comics, in its perpetual quest to be the smarter-er-er-than-you-est publisher on the block, has licensed a hero for our time, by licensing a hero who is 41 years old.

Maybe we’re not as worried about barrels of toxic waste as we used to be, but substitute that for violent federal policing of cities, artificial intelligence or the surveillance state’s chilling effect on free speech, and the need for protectors is the same.

And who better to write a satirical take on anti-corporate justice than Matt Bors, political cartoonist and co-creator of AHOY’s Justice Warriors, a comic that saw RoboCop and said, “What is this half-measure of a movie?”

And who better to draw Toxie than Fred Harper, whose baseline humans are already deformed, twisted and colorful like Silly Putty that’s been pressed all over the Sunday funnies?

Truly, these are toxic times, indeed.

Check out these covers to November’s Toxic Avenger Comics #5, which AHOY is letting us exclusively premiere, and keep scrolling for the basic deets.
