Well, it looks like Fabian Cortez is back to one, eh?
X-villainy’s best obsequious twit is back and doing his fawning lackey who will betray you at the first opportunity schtick, using his ability to boost others’ mutant power to cozy up to yet another big bad.
So much for the come-to-Jesus moment he seemed to have on Krakoa and even showed a little of during Sentinels, eh?
But it occurred to me.
Ol’ Fabez is still wearing largely the same costume he wore in his first appearance in 1991’s X-Men Vol. 2 #1. Because of course he is; like every Jim Lee design, it has transcended time. But instead of the red and purple that indicated his “loyalty” to Magneto, here it’s blue and yellow, classic X-Men colors.
And that set me to wondering.
If Fabian’s best known as the lackey who sucks up to supervillains only to later betray them, shouldn’t he have a whole wardrobe of costumes in the style of whoever’s ass he’s kissing that month? Canonically, no, he hasn’t been shown as the right hand of all of these, but imagine Fabian in a blue mechsuit for his Apocalypse phase, a fringed cape as one of Sinister’s Marauders, a green cloak and metal mask as a supplicant of Doctor Doom, an obnoxiously large purple hat as a herald of Galactus, etc. All with that awful, awful ponytail.
That’s a whole line of Marvel Legends action figures right there. Heck, giant Galacti-Cortez can be the build-a-figure.
Someone pay an artist to draw these.
