Larry Lieber is coming to Super Jersey Comic Expo

As a co-creator of Iron Man and Ant-Man and scripter of the publisher’s first appearance of Thor, Larry Lieber is one of the last surviving architects of the Marvel Universe.

And he’s coming to Super Jersey Comic Expo.

The convention announced the 93-year-old Lieber’s appearance Tuesday, referring to him in an earlier teaser post as “comic book royalty.”

He will be signing from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 27, and promoting his new and first-ever prose novel, Chirps. A spotlight panel will follow the signing.

Lieber is the younger brother of Marvel progenitor Stan Lee (real name Stanley Lieber), whom Lee brought in to help him finish scripts and draw some of the publisher’s earliest comics. In addition to the above-mentioned characters, Lieber worked on many of proto-Marvel’s crime, romance, science-fiction and monster comics. Not all of that work was credited.

He also wrote and drew the Western comic Rawhide Kid from 1964 to 1973, wrote Captain Britain features for Marvel UK in the 1970s and wrote and/or drew The Incredible Hulk and The Amazing Spider-Man newspaper comic strips, the latter of which he retired from in 2018.

He also served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951 to 1955, during the Korean War.

Lieber joins a guest lineup that includes former Marvel Editor-in-Chief Jim Shooter, X-Men and Star Wars artist Salvador Larroca, Green Lantern and Silver Surfer writer Ron Marz, and Ghost Rider artist Cory Smith, as well as X-Men voice actors Cal Dodd (Wolverine), Holly Chou (Jubilee) and Ross Marquand (Professor X).
