End of Life #1: Professional hitman Eddie Stallion has accidentally robbed the Raven, a high-ranking crime boss. Now with a price on his head, Eddie chooses to hide in the one place everyone knows he’d never go, the small midwestern town of Pluto, home of his estranged father and known hard-ass George Stallion. Looking for safe harbor, Eddie instead finds his resentful father dying of cancer, old friends looking to collect that bounty, assassins who have wandered into town, a canceled newspaper comic-strip creator turned local crime lord, and oh yeah, his childhood first love. By Kyle Starks and Steve Pugh for Vertigo. ($3.99) Buy it here.

Matt’s pick: The Muppets Noir #1: The show is about to begin at the famous Muppet Theatre, and the regular pre-curtain chaos has Kermit the Frog coming apart at the seams. In an attempt to de-stress, he settles down to read a few pages of an old detective novel, only to get kayoed by an errant brick to the bean, leaving him laid out backstage. But unbeknownst to his co-stars, Kermit has taken up the hard-boiled mantle of his fictional hero to walk the darkened streets of Dreamland, righting wrongs and cracking cases under the concealing cover of night. By Roger Langridge for Dynamite. ($4.99) Listen to Langridge talk about the series on The ComicsXF Interview Podcast. | Buy it here.

But before she can rescue an undercover agent captured by Discau’s men, Miquel — the agent’s sexy loose cannon of an older brother — beats her to the punch, storming into the park with bullets flying. Discau panics, dumping the Coke45 into the hippo enclosure and letting them loose on the park. Uh-oh. By Fred Kennedy and James Edward Clark for Mad Cave Studios.
