Welcome to Inferno! As our friends at Jay & Miles Xplain the X-Men like to say, Inferno never ends! And with that, we’re in the thick of “Dark Web”, AKA Inferno II: Electric Boogaloo! In Dark Web: #1, Christmas in New York gets interrupted by a familiar demon problem from Zeb Wells, Adam Kubert, Frank Martin,…
Fellow ComicsXF writer Tony Thornley joins us this week just in time for the new Batman/Spawn crossover to talk about other times that Batman has met characters from across the comic book omniverse. Batman meets alien hunters, an arachnid themed hero and the hellspawn he’ll be meeting again. Intercompany crossovers are a weird and wild…
I love good all-ages comics. I’m a parent of two small boys. Both love reading, and the youngest has recently started his first ever pull list. It’s made the lack of all-ages books in general glaring to me. Frankly, there should be Spider-Man and Batman all-ages books being published at all times. While the latter…
Spider-Man comes to the City of Angels as a cosmic horror hits the town too from Taboo, B. Earl, Juan Ferreyra, and Travis Lanham in Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1! No one quite knew what to expect from Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man, especially not me. Cracking the issue open, I was surprised. Where I expected a story…
I honestly forgot this book was coming out. It was so two-thousand and late. But it’s finally here, Deadly Neighborhood Spider-Man #1, the book where a guy from The Black Eyed Peas writes a story where Spider-Man fights the Demon Bear from New Mutants. I got a feeling that Taboo, B. Earl and Juan Ferreyra…
It’s the beginning of the end for the Spider-Verse in Spider-Man #1 from Dan Slott, Mark Bagley, John Dell, Edgar Delgado, and Joe Caramagna! After a year where the Spider-Man line at Marvel finally started making strides forward, it’s impossible to look at Spider-Man #1 without thinking “what on Earth are they thinking?” Okay, sure,…
The Hellfire Gala may be long over (except in X-Men Unlimited by Steve Foxe and Alan Robinson literally right now), but the party never ends as long as Moria X is in the house! That’s right everyone’s favorite megalomaniacal supervillain robot lady with a hat and a bad attitude is back in Amazing Spider-Man #9…
Can Miles finally topple the Empire of the Spider? Let’s find out in Miles Morales: Spider-Man #41 written by Saladin Ahmed, art by Christopher Allen, colors by David Curiel, and letters by Cory Petit. In the year of our Lord 2022, just when I thought all irony and ridiculousness had been used up by the…
Using the magic of science (science!), mysticism and a few bored brains (ok, one bored brain), I’ve managed to connect with Jude from universe 777-9311 for a joint review of Miles Morales #40. Continue to read…if you dare! (Maniacally cryptic music plays in background) 616 Jude: …so you’re telling me where you’re from, housing is…
Miles Morales #39 doesn’t really ask a lot of questions – not explicitly. I’d argue it’s not concerned with asking or pausing at all – this issue is about momentum. And you know, that’s okay. Sometimes you can’t do and think at the same time. Sometimes doing is enough. And Miles Morales #39 does quite…
It’s so important that we remember that a “deal with the devil” is a common phrase about compromising your values and not a literal deal with a literal devil. That would be a morally abhorrent thing for Spider-Man to do. Some would say an unforgivable act. Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr. deliver another issue…
With the looming release of Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness serving as the latest entry in pop culture’s recent obsession with multiverses and realities alternate, parallel and multiple, we asked our ComicsXF writers to share their thoughts about their favorite alternate reality from across the wide multiverse of stories! Earth-1610: The Ultimate Universe…
Peter Parker’s life…changes forever? It’s a brand new Amazing Spider-Man #1, this time from writer Zeb Wells, penciler John Romita Jr., inker Scott Hanna, colorist Marcio Menyz, and letterer Joe Caramagna. The most remarkable thing about Amazing Spider-Man #1, really, is how unremarkable it is. Peter and MJ’s final moments at the conclusion of the…
It’s a large world, yes, but it’s also very small. I find that niche communities— say, I don’t know, comic review sites, dispersed around the world as they may be— cultivate a connected community. So as a member of this connected comics community, I’ve been more than tangentially aware of a few illustrators and writers…
