Everything You Need To Know About X-MEN BLACK

X-MEN BLACK was finally revealed at the X-Men panel at SDCC. It will be a series of one-shots revolving around different villains in the X-Universe. It will run weekly in October with covers by J. Scott Campbell. Every issue will include an Apocalypse back-up story written by Zac Thompson & Lonnie Nadler.

The creative teams are incredibly strong, and I am gonna react to them right now (pictures were stolen from Adventures in Poor Taste! who you should check out because they paid for the tickets to the con).

X-MEN BLACK MAGNETO #1 will be written by Chris Claremont with Dalibor Talajic art. Claremont needs no introduction and Talajic has been a solid artist for years. A must read for X-Fans.

X-MEN BLACK EMMA FROST #1 has Leah Williams writing with Chris friggin’ Bachalo on art. Leah is one of the most delightful writers you haven’t realized you love yet and Chris Bachalo is arguably the greatest artist in X-Men history. This book will surprise a lot of people and should not be missed.

X-MEN BLACK JUGGERNAUT #1 has Robbie Thompson and Shawn Crystal working it. Robbie has quietly been putting together an excellent body of work at Marvel and Shawn Crystal’s art was the only redeeming quality of FANTOMEX MAX. It is probably the release I’m least excited about, but it will scratch the itch for a lot of folks.

X-MEN BLACK MOJO #1 comes to us from very funny podcaster/comedian/writer/dude Scott Aukerman with art by Nick Bradshaw. Scott is an objectively funny guy who has experience writing for Marvel. Nick Bradshaw excels at comedy. This is a Mojo story. Pre-order the heck out of it.

X-MEN BLACK MYSTIQUE #1 bring Seanan McGuire and Marco Failla up to bat. Seanan is doing X-MEN GOLD ANNUAL #2 and has a successful career as a novelist. Marco Failla has done beautiful work on MS MARVEL and is a visual treat of an artist. Expect an exciting take on a character who can be hard to pin down.

Finally, Zac Thompson & Lonnie Nadler, coming off their fantastic CABLE run, will write a backup in every issue of X-MEN BLACK about Apocalypse. Geraldo Borges, coming off a recent stint on X-MEN GOLD, will be providing the art. Zac & Lonnie have never let me down, so this? I’m pumped for this.

That does it for X-MEN BLACK, make sure you pick it up this October.

Zachary Jenkins runs ComicsXF and is a co-host on the podcast “Battle of the Atom.” Shocking everyone, he has a full and vibrant life outside of all this.
