Villainy Inc. is badder and bigger than ever as the Wonder friends come to a head with Cizcoās scheme. Wonder Woman #789 is written by Michael Conrad and Becky Cloonan, penciled by Emanuela Lupacchino and Eduardo Ponsico, inked by Wade Von Grawbadger and Julio Ferreiro, colored by Tamra Bonvillain, and lettered by Pat Brosseau.Ā
Diana Vs Cizco and Dolos
Just like that weāre in the thick of it just like a giant Dr Cizco in the park. But heās an illusion projected by the Duke of Deception, Dolos. I love when folks utilize the lasso of truth, and I adore the way the art team depicts how Diana sees through the lasso with the tinted blue with stars. With Cizco and Dolos together, theyāve got the men under a spell. Theyāre riled up against her while she fights Dolos, whoās no match for her.
Siggy and Steve vs Dr. Poison
The boys are on the way to do some crowd control, but have crashed due to the red-hats. Steveās pretty out of it, but Siegfried leaps into action. He sadly doesnāt get to use his blade and before he gets to put up too much of a fight, Dr. Poison blasts both the boys with her specialty.Ā
Etta Vs Prof. Calculus
Meanwhile, surprising no one, Etta has found something nefarious in the milk all the non-soy boys have been consuming. Sheās set up a meeting with Dr. Calculus, her old prof from back in her college days. She already suspects something is up, but to no avail. He takes her out with a taser.
Sweetheartās having second thoughts about being part of the villains group. She drops the magic glass, amplifying Cizcoās power, and itās hard to tell if itās truly from the heat or because she just doesnāt have the heart to keep up her villainous acts. Turns out sheās not the only one having second thoughts about Cizcoās plans.
But the Prof has Etta and the Doctor has the boys. Things arenāt looking good for Diana as she heads into the next part of the final showdown that Cizco has arranged. Try as I might, thereās not a whole lot to break down in this issue. The Duke of Deception and Professor Calculus are some fun golden age enemies to bring back along with Doctor Poison and Dr. Psycho.
Iāve enjoyed C&Cās take on these villains so far and have been intrigued by the golden age references that echo current events in their tale, so Iām curious to see where #790 takes us!
Wonderful Whims
- Really appreciate the use of āMilk-drinkersā both as a literal descriptor and for what HAS to be a Skyrim reference.
- āLetās dance, Dukeā is such a great, classic sounding comic phrase!
