We’re long past the days of the bouncing, blue-furred Beast who quoted Shakespeare and pulled lighthearted pranks while simultaneously trying to cure the Legacy Virus. Since the ’90s he’s been on a downward trajectory of devil’s bargains and war crimes. Benjamin Percy steered into the skid, and has spent the most recent arcs of both his X-series pitting the rest of Krakoa’s intelligence operations against him, while he haunts the ocean in an actual island that walks like a man, his only company a seemingly neverending army of clones of himself and Wolverine.
That may be coming to an end.
Or maybe not. Percy likes to drag things out. Or maybe we’re just not used to long-form storytelling anymore.
