Never Mind the Bollocks, here’s Spider-Punk in this week’s Staff Picks

Each week, ComicsXF staff offer their recommendations for what to read. New DC books come out Tuesdays (for now), everything else Wednesdays.

Scott’s pick: Spider-Punk: Arms Race #1: Hobie Brown is the anarchic Spider-Punk, set to protect Earth-138 with his ax and his chaotic band of punk rockin’ heroes backing him! Norman Osborn is dead, but will the chaos he’s created be too much for Spider-Punk and gang to handle? Written by Cody Ziglar and drawn by Justin Mason. ($4.99) Previously, in Spider-Verse … | Buy it here.

Austin’s pick: Resurrection of Magneto #2: In the depths, Magneto was given a key by strange forces — and impossibly, he holds it still. Now, in death, Max Eisenhardt judges his own life — and counts the cost. Should he return to the world? Can he allow Storm to bring him back? And what does the Deep Key unlock? Written by Al Ewing and drawn by Luciano Vecchio. ($4.99) Previously, in Resurrection of Magneto … | Buy it here.

Tony’s pick: Duke #3: Duke’s search for answers has led him to a classified holding site for America’s most dangerous prisoners. Now he’s the most wanted man in the world. Unfortunately, everyone seems to prefer him dead over alive. Written by Joshua Williamson and drawn by Tom Reilly for Image/Skybound. ($3.99) Previously, in the Energon Universe … | Buy it here.

Dan’s pick: Rare Flavours #4: As Rubin and Mo continue their travels and the work on their documentary, a Dhabha cook on a highway to Mumbai provides a delicious look into the depth in simplicity, and how the most mundane thing can turn complex through effort. Written by Ram V and drawn by Filipe Andrade for BOOM Studios. ($4.99) Listen to Ram’s recent appearance on WMQ&A: The ComicsXF Interview Podcast. | Buy it here.

Mark’s pick: Immortal Thor #7: Young Thor faced the tricks of the Utgard-Loki, with all that lived at stake — in a tale twice-told and now told again. Yet the teller was the Skald of Realms, in their aspect as Thor’s enemy. And thus, the tale could twist upon itself — and if Thor faltered, it could make a new end. Written by Al Ewing and drawn by Martin Coccolo. ($4.99) Buy it here.

Sean’s pick: The Nasty #7: Halloween is fast approaching, and it’s almost time for the big horror festival. With Red Ennis gone rogue, Thumper absent and the locals being worked into a frenzy, it falls on Meera to rally the crew and finish their film. But as she discovers the horrifying truth of the cursed videotape, Meera also finds herself the unwilling star of an all-too-real horror. Written by John Lees and drawn by Adam Cahoon for Vault Comics. ($4.99)

Matt’s pick: Detective Comics #1,082: Batman’s hallucinatory trek across a desert between worlds becomes ever more dangerous as he finds himself face to face with … well, you’ll just have to wait and find out. Meanwhile, in Gotham, a strange Utopia is blooming as the Orghams continue to hypnotize the public into believing that Batman never existed. Written by Ram V and drawn by Riccardo Federici and Stefano Raffaele, with a backup by Dan Watters and Christopher Mitten. ($4.99) Previously, in BatChat … | Buy it here.

Adam’s pick: Walt Disney’s Mickey & Donald: Mickey’s Craziest Adventures HC: French cartoonists Lewis Trondheim and Nicolas Kéramidas return for another epic saga sending Mickey and Donald on the Beagle Boys’ globetrotting trail. Published by Fantagraphics. ($22.99)
