Vampire respectability politics in our EXCLUSIVE preview of Vengeance of the Moon Knight #6

Marvel’s Blood Hunt is a story about vampires using magic to block out the sun so they can feast endlessly on the world and its inhabitants.

But did you know there are good vampires, too? Ones who have fought to control their thirst for human blood and are attempting to use their experiences to fight the evil vampires?

Maybe even … protect a world that hates and fears them?

Take Reese and Soldier, two members of the Midnight Mission that make up Moon Knight’s supporting cast. They’re vampires, and they’re doing their best to protect the Mission from the vampire invasion. They’re also engaged in an argument about how to protect one particular human who doesn’t trust them. Whether he should be dragged kicking and screaming to safety or allowed to make his own choice based on the knowledge at hand and, quite possibly, his own prejudices.

“Forget silver blades, stakes, whatever. It’s trust that’s our most important weapon,” Reese says.

Quite frankly, Reese, if a human doesn’t trust you, that’s on them. Respectability politics has often been used by the elites of a marginalized group to police their own for the benefit of a majority class that doesn’t care and will continue to marginalize you either way. Do what you need to do.
