Picture it: Gambit teaching the Devourer of Worlds to play No Limit Hold ‘Em, inviting him to ante up at a poker game on the Blue Area of the Moon with the Thing, Wolverine and Black Cat. He gets so good he decides to join the World Series of Poker tour. Suddenly you’re watching Galactus on ESPN on a Sunday afternoon, wearing a visor and sunglasses to hide his tells as he takes his competitors for all they’re worth at some Las Vegas casino.
But the thrill of winning isn’t enough. Galactus hungers for more. That’s when Gambit teaches Galactus how to do heists. Suddenly, Galan of Taa is a cosmic Danny Ocean, putting together squads of confidence men, demolitions experts, tech guys and other archetypes to knock over Gameworld, Mojoworld and all of the other cosmic gaming houses.
Then comes the final lesson. Gambit teaches Galactus … to love.
You see, Galactus has always had an unrequited crush on Mistress Love, another of the traditional Marvel deities. Gambit knows about remaining true to a woman he can never touch (until very recently), so he plays Cyrano de Bergerac, whispering advice and flattering words into Galactus’ ear as he attempts to pursue his literal lady love. And in that, their bond becomes eternal.
