Earlier this year, Marvel released Rogue: The Savage Land, a five-issue miniseries set during Anna Marie’s time in the Antarctic dinosaur jungle toward the end of Chris Claremont’s original run on Uncanny X-Men. It’s one of the many nostalgia minis Marvel has released in recent years, though the only one to feature Rogue in a bikini.
We don’t really know how well comics sell these days, but it must have done decently enough that A) writer Tim Seeley is being given a second go with Psylocke: Ninja, harkening to Betsy Braddock’s early days being trapped in the body of a Japanese assassin, and B) Marvel’s sequel to this year’s Swimsuit Special (also co-written by Seeley) is ALSO a sequel to Rogue: The Savage Land, with characters calling back to the events of that series (but also hanging a lampshade on it by commenting on how it sounds “shoehorned in.”
Which it is. That’s how those nostalgia minis work. And it’s extremely rare that they are referenced in the comics set in the present.
But hey, first time for everything. And double hey, another shout-out for Zaladane!
