Every Monday, Senior X-Men Editor Mark Paniccia answers fans questions and shares cool new art from the X-Line. We’ll be here compiling all those hints in one place, alongside the rest of the best stuff in X-Men Social media, so you don’t have to worry about missing a single second of it. This is #XMENMONDAY Round-Up

Friggin’ Confirmed?

Fellow rumor mill Bleeding Cool reported this week that Matthew Rosenberg would be writing a new Multiple Man comic for Marvel. This would track with what we have been reporting for weeks about resurrecting Jamie Madrox for his own series. However, if you ask Peter David, he doesn’t need resurrecting at all.

And since writing this at lunch today Comicbook.com did, in fact friggin’ confirm that this is happening. Andy MacDonald is doing the art and Marco Martin is doing covers. There will be some X-Factor alumni showing up but specifically not Layla Miller, Madrox’s wife. Rosenberg claims the pitch was “What if he wasn’t dead?” so we will see how that works.

X-MEN: BLUE writer Cullen Bunn answered some fan’s questions about the series on his Tumblr with interesting developments.

Cable TV

Upcoming CABLE writers Lonnie Nadler and Zac Thompson did an AMA on /r/comicbooks over on Reddit. There is a ton of good bits there but a couple things about the new series stood out to me.

Zac said

There’s definitely some pressure to walk the line of being more appealing and actually, our first initial take on Cable was shot down after we completed our first script. It was a really dark detective story like True Detective. But this arc is actually in a lot of ways weirder and more insane. It’s a celebration of the character and highlights everything people love about him so in many ways its more mainstream than ever but still has loads of body horror so it still feels firmly like “us”. If that makes any sense.

It’s always a tough line to straddle but we’re just trying to make something we’re incredibly proud of that’s both appealing and different. The best mainstream comics are the ones that take chances.

To which Lonnie added

Even writing something at Marvel, Zac and I still try to write for ourselves first and foremost, but we’re also not the only ones invested in the story as you can imagine. Marvel has been pretty kind to us in terms of letting us tell the story we want to tell, but there’s always notes here and there about making sure it’s a bit more accessible to a wider audience. It’s not so much about Cable being in Deadpool 2 and more about making sure anyone off the street can pick this book up as their first comic and understand the vast majority of what’s going on. We’re not used to telling stories this way per say, but it’s a fun challenge.

Zac also said

This one is an entirely different approach to the character. We’re diving in deep to our love for Cable and his continuity but also working to create a new villain that is body horror personified. It’s a lot more personal this time around.

Lonnie gave more details

We’re approaching Cable in a very different way from the past couple arcs. This is a more grounded story with a Memento style narrative that goes backwards through time to learn about the Techno-Organic monster that’s been following Cable over the course of his life. It’s going to be fun, scary, and heartbreaking. We hope you check it out.

He also added a bit about the structure of the book

We are not building off of anything that came from Brisson’s run. It does however dive deep into Cable’s history and pays homage to great runs of the past, but it also functions as a standalone arc. Each issue is semi-stand alone but works as part of the greater whole, all coming full circle by #159. You could never have read any Cable and still get what’s going on, but if you’re a lifelong fan there’s a little bit extra in there for you emotionally.

Finally, they talked about a big influence on the book. First Zac’s take

We definitely mined the Adventures of Cyclops and Pheonix for this arc. But I don’t want to go into too much detail because it will spoil our long game.

But I can tell you that you’re not going to be seeing Stryfe or Zero here. We’re staying far away from that stuff.

Then Lonnie’s

Yeah, Adventures of Cyclops and Phoenix was a big influence on our arc… You’ll see some familiar faces for sure. A lot of people haven’t read that series though so we aren’t doing too many deep cuts.

Other Neat Things

X-Men legend Chris Claremont gave his opinion about Kitty & Colossus’ impending nuptials. He doesn’t love it but he is playing along. Considering he is writing something for the special this makes sense.
