I have strong sense memories of the original Adult Swim lineup on the Cartoon Network. To a half-drunk, half-sleepy college kid like myself, it was animation by way of fever dream.
Hey, look at those kids playing soccer, they’re so squiggly – nod off – why’s Brak’s dad so tiny – nod off – HOLY CRAP THAT MEATBALL’S TALKING – nod off – was Sealab like an old cartoon or something? Who’s Adrienne Barbeau? – nod off – haha, nobody cares, Moby.
And while my favorite Adult Swim show would eventually be The Venture Bros., there was something magical about those original six shows, the last truly great moment of pop culture before 9/11.
All of this is to say, Polaris calling a little red demon Frylock in this preview made me chuckle. Also, Havok should have stayed a zombie. But that’s a rant for another time.
