SAI: Dimensional Rivals #2 celebrates good art (PREVIEW)

When a comic doesn’t just have good art but celebrates the power of good art, readers ought to take notice.

SAI: Dimensional Rivals isn’t some throwaway comic built around the SEO of its name designed to pull normies off their PS5s for a few minutes (though it may also be that). It’s a showcase; a vehicle through which Peach Momoko can gather some of her talented colleagues from across the industry and watch them try to one-up each other in their respective inimitable styles.

For example, I didn’t know I needed to see Esad Ribic draw Psylocke and the Silver Surfer. Ribic doing interiors is an event – think Secret Wars (2015), Eternals and Aliens vs. Avengers – so the fact that we’re blessed with a few more pages of it is a true gift.

What we’re witnessing is iron sharpening iron. Marvel doesn’t always give its artists their fair shake – the No. 3 comics publisher started as a direct result of that – but Momoko is using the capital she’s built as an artist who moves units to help put her peers front and center, which is reason enough to support this series.
