This Gerald Parel variant for Uncanny X-Men #26 has us comparing Outliers, New Mutants

It’s always interesting to compare generations of X-heroes looking for analogs. Gerald Parel’s variant cover for April’s Uncanny X-Men #26 takes inspiration from Bob McLeod, so let’s have a little fun comparing the Outliers to the original class of New Mutants.

Calico is a bit like Wolfsbane. Timid. Raised, if not outright religious, then at least with a healthy fear of modernity. And where Wolfsbane transforms into a wolf, Calico summons a horse.

Ransom is comparable in some ways to Sunspot. Both are South American. They may be cousins, based on a hint that was dropped in one issue. Ransom can have a bit of a temper, just as Beto is a man of great passion. Both their powers act as batteries of a sort; Sunspot’s solar, Ransom’s kinetic energy.

Jitter can access any expertise for one minute. Theoretically Karma could do the same thing depending on whom she chooses to possess.

And while Dani Moonstar can show anyone their greatest fear and use it against them, Deathdream, when provoked, is creepy enough to become your greatest fear.

Which I guess makes the horse Cannonball? I mean Ember is a very good boy.

That’s why these analogies never quite work out one to one.
