EXCLUSIVE Preview: Penultiman is in chains in series finale

Penultiman, the hero from humanity’s far-flung future sent back in time to live with his more primitive ancestors (that’d be us), has been beset by failure, self-doubt and a robot (Antepenultiman) who seems more beloved and better at his job than he will ever be. And it’s all clearly starting to wear on the man: In the series’ penultimate issue — I could not at all help myself there, sorry — Penultiman attended a self-help workshop, only to denounce its participants and vent his inner rage.

In the ultimate conclusion, out next week and exclusively previewed here, with Penultiman beginning to break and his internal loathing becoming very much an external problem, will Antepenultiman and the robot’s robot helper (Preantepenultiman) be able to save the day?

Or will our hero crumble for all the world to see?

Penultiman #5, written by Tom Peyer, drawn and colored by Alan Robinson, lettered by Rob Steen and published by AHOY, goes on sale Feb. 17.

Final issue! Penultiman’s artificial understudy, Antepenultiman, has patiently tried to repair the superhero’s self-loathing attitude — but now the android’s patience is gone! Can a sidekick force a hero to heal?
