During a recent episode of The ComicsXF Interview Podcast, we asked writer Cody Ziglar about the plan to turn Miles Morales into a vampire during this summer’s Blood Hunt event and how it affected his series going forward.
“I knew they were doing vampire stuff and there was a possibility Miles gets bit and I was like, ‘Oh cool, he’ll be cured by the end of the mini,'” Ziglar says on the podcast, “and then they’re like, ‘No, actually he’s gonna be a vampire for a while.’ And I was like, ‘Oh, well, there goes all the plans that I had.’ Let me go ahead and rearrange stuff.
“But also,” he continued, “there’s an offering in that in that it gave some really cool story potential.”
Which gives us our current arc of Miles Morales, in which Miles, much Peter Parker when he first got the black symbiote costume, is struggling to keep his violent urges at bay, so much so that he beats the stuffing out of Vulture, aka his girlfriend’s grandfather, in issue #24 and goes full on “No TV and no beer make Homer something something” at the sight of Black Panther opening a vein in our preview of issue #25.
Mmmmm …. blood [drooling noises].
