First there was Flamequake, a chimera of Pyro and Avalanche.
Then there was Skippingstone, a chimera of Blob and Toad.
Finally, Bishop confronts the leader of the Final Brotherhood, Mirrormind, a chimera of Mystique’s shapeshifting and Mastermind’s illusion casting.
It’s been fun watching Saladin Ahmed and various artists pit Lucas against these hybrid characters, combining their powers in new and interesting ways. Just look at this preview, in which Mirrormind puppets a bunch of dead cruise ship passengers to taunt our hero.
It contrasts with Bishop and Shard, two characters with very ’90s energy casting powers and laser guns. It’s that very Batman thing of making your villains bright and colorful so the hero can remain serious and purposeful. Bishop is a character who needs to be told to lighten up. Of course you want to play him off a big guy with a waxed mustache and neckfrill.
Check out our exclusive preview of Bishop #4, out next week, and keep scrolling for the basic deets.
