Last year’s X-Men: The Hellfire Vigil one-shot and recent solicits have teased the introduction of a new member of the X-Men family: a daughter for Storm named Furaha. If you’re like me, a fan of the Brian Michael Bendis era of X-Men, you might be thinking, “Doesn’t Storm already have a daughter?” And yes, reader, you might be remembering Kymera, the future child of Ororo who walked around with a giant panther only to be killed in a comic book you might have missed called Winter’s End.
Point being, it’s tough being a newly introduced kid in the pages of comic books, especially the X-Men! What are the odds Furaha will “survive the experience” and stick around as an ongoing character? To find out, we took a look at any X-Men who have kids and whether said offspring have stuck around or had a different fate befall them. Let’s look at the data first.
For the purposes of this exercise, the character must be the child of a fairly prominent X-Men character and/or villain. Children may be biological, adopted or in some cases genetically created by supervillains and may include offspring from alternate timelines and/or futures. All entries are based on current continuity as of publication, so please don’t yell at us about the Scarlet Witch.
Legion

Parent: Charles Xavier
Last Appeared: Giant Size X-Men Vol. 3 #2
Status: White Hot Room
At the tail end of Krakoa, we left David Haller in the warmth of the White Hot Room. But just recently, a shell of Legion appeared in Jackson Lanzing and Collin Kelly’s multi-title Giant-Size Ms. Marvel time travel crossover from last year, making him a still-dead but ongoing presence in the X-books.
Verdict: Remembered
Proteus

Parent: Moira MacTaggert
Last Appeared: Rise of the Powers of X #5
Status: White Hot Room
Moira’s son, the occasional villain and eventual core member of The Five, Kevin “Proteus” MacTaggert, has more appearances on Krakoa than he does before, making him far more important in the recent past than he was before it. He also currently resides in the White Hot Room.
Verdict: Remembered
Polaris

Parent: Magneto
Last Appeared: X-Men: The Hellfire Vigil #1 (main reality)/Sinister’s Six (Age of Revelation)
Status: Alive
Like her sometimes-siblings Wanda and Pietro, Lorna Dane has spent much of her canonical page time questioning her actual lineage, but it’s very clear at present that Lorna is indeed the daughter of Magneto. Polaris played an essential role in the attack on Orchis in the final act of Krakoa. Her role since has been closer to “Havok’s girlfriend,” but she’s still very much on the board.
Verdict: Active
Cable

Parents: Cyclops and Madelyne Pryor/Jean Grey
Last Appeared: Inglorious X-Force #1
Status: Alive
Cable has been a popular and reliable character since Day One, so much so that he’s been able to carry team and solo titles on and off for 35 years. Even when he dies, he’s immediately replaced by another him from the timeline. He’s not going anywhere.
Verdict: Very Active
Rachel Summers

Parents: Cyclops (Jean)
Last Appeared: Phoenix #15
Status: Alive
Rachel was a risky addition to the X-Men when she was introduced as a living witness to the horrors of the “Days of Future Past” timeline. In the decades since, especially as a headliner in Excalibur and through her current relationship with Betsy Braddock, she’s become a beloved fan favorite. Her last book, X-Force Vol. 7, may not have had staying power, but Rachel most definitely does, even if she’s between books at the moment.
Verdict: Sorta Active
Daken/Hellverine

Parent: Wolverine
Last Appeared: Inglorious X-Force #1
Status: Undead
Daken, aka Akihiro, has been a villain, an anti-hero and now a flaming skeleton of vengeance. His transformation into the Hellverine allows this son of Wolverine to headline solos, play in the realm of Ghost Rider and still be a team player in an X-book. That kind of versatility means he’s sticking around.
Verdict: Very Active
Wolverine (Laura Kinney)

Parent: Wolverine
Last Appeared: Generation X-23 #1, out this week
Status: Alive
Introduced in the comics as a female clone of Wolverine (after making her debut in the animated X-Men: Evolution), Laura was eventually retconned into being Wolverine’s biological daughter in one of those “Return of Wolverine” miniseries in the late 2010s. She’s long since become a character in her own right and a fan favorite, taking the name Wolverine for herself and remaining a fixture of the X-books in one way or another.
Verdict: Very Active
Various Wolverine kids

Parent: Wolverine
Last Appeared: All over the place
Status: Surprisingly alive
We know Wolverine likes to mentor youth, but he also likes to not know he has children. There’s that baby in the Savage Land (I call him Nagol, the handbook calls him Erista) Logan doesn’t even know about, the adopted Amiko Koshiyaba who was foisted immediately onto Mariko Yashida, Raze (his alt-Future Brotherhood son with Mystique) who’s still in the present 616 if anyone cares, all those lovely Red Right Hand cretins, and hey, what about Reine du Rien? That’s right — Logan’s been alive for a long time, and dude has been around. His offspring, however? Not so much.
Verdict: Very much forgotten
Kymera

Parent: Storm
Last Appeared: Uncanny X-Men: Winter’s End #1
Status: Dead
I mentioned Kymera in the intro, but yes, Storm’s daughter from the future X-Men with the giant panther did stick around for a short stint in X-Men Vol. 4 before she was killed off panel in a one-shot. It’s very doubtful we’ll ever see the character again.
Verdict: Forgotten
Nocturne

Parent: Nightcrawler
Last Appeared: Exiles Vol. 3 #10 (Unless you count Luciano Vecchio drawing her into Rise of the Powers of X #5)
Status: Alive
The daughter of Nightcrawler and the Scarlet Witch from an alternate reality, Nocturne was one of the foundational members of the original Exiles, and proved popular enough to make a decent number of appearances outside that particular series, including a stint as a mole inside Exodus’ short-lived Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, and as part of Chris Claremont’s New Excalibur. But it’s been a bit since Nocturne’s heyday.
Verdict: Inactive
Siryn

Parent: Banshee
Last Appeared: X-Men: The Hellfire Vigil #1
Status: Imprisoned
Theresa Cassidy has had her share of adventures with X-Force and X-Factor, but she’s currently shackled and controlled by Podcaster Ellis at Graymalkin Prison. With solicits promising a conclusion to the Graymalkin Prison story, hopefully we’ll see Siryn pop back up as a team player sometime soon.
Verdict: Active
Various Havok kids

Parent: Alex Summers
Last Appeared: Mutant X #32, AXIS #9, Sinister’s Six #3
Status: All dead
Poor, poor Havok. Of all the characters on this list, Alex Summers has the most alt-universe children who don’t make it. They include Scotty Summers (his Mutant X son with Madelyne Pryor), Katie Summers (his Planet X daughter with the Wasp) and Chris Summers (his Sinister’s Six son with Polaris). And in at least two cases, he had to return to his original timeline with the memory of losing those kids. It’s pretty brutal, even if writers tend to forget and do it to him repeatedly.
Verdict: Forgotten
Shogo

Parent: Jubilee
Last Appeared: Knights of X #5
Status: Dragon
This one is wild. Jubilee became a mom by adopting orphaned baby Shogo in X-Men Vol. 4. Shogo has been a future X-man in Sentinel Iron Man armor, infected with the sentient bacteria Arkea, hunted by his biological father The Future, and most recently turned into a dragon in the Krakoa era’s Otherworld and … left there. Since then, there have been minimal nods to his existence in Gail Simone’s Uncanny X-Men, but sadly it does not seem like anyone is going to bring back Jubilee’s son anytime soon.
Verdict: Forgotten
Himeko

Parent: Kwannon
Last Appeared: Fallen Angels Vol. 2 #1
Status: Fridged
In developing Kwannon’s backstory beyond the mess of the ’90s, Fallen Angels Vol. 2 gave her a daughter who was then immediately killed by the evil Apoth. The promise of reuniting with her late child served as motivation for Psylocke throughout Hellions, which in the true Mister Sinister backstabbing spirit, never happened.
Verdict: Forgotten
Tyler Dayspring

Parent: Cable
Last Appeared: Timeslide (2024) #1. And before that, a Wolverine/Cable one-shot from 1999.
Status: Dead
Like many things involving early Cable stories, Tyler is the result of a number of retcons — he was like Cable’s son, brainwashed into joining the Mutant Liberation Front, but then not, and actually Cable’s son, and also secretly Mr. Tolliver, the arms dealer who sent Deadpool after Cable in Deadpool’s first appearance. Eventually, Tyler came to style himself as Genesis, heir to Apocalypse, and tried to put adamantium back on Wolverine’s bones (and make Wolverine his horseman). Instead, Wolverine rejected the adamantium, lost his nose and killed Tyler. Since then, he’s only really appeared in flashbacks/flashforwards, a footnote on the Summers family tree.
Verdict: Forgotten
Hope Summers

Parent: Cable
Last Appeared: Phoenix #15
Status: White Hot Room
It’s only a matter of time before we see the second coming (no, not that “Second Coming”) of the mutant messiah, Hope Summers. However, given her current residence in the White Hot Room, her presence is currently limited to cosmic cameos like the recent one in the pages of Phoenix.
Verdict: Remembered
Shatterstar

Parents: Dazzler and Longshot
Last Appeared: X-Men: The Hellfire Vigil #1 (Cameo)
Status: Alive
The rare entry here where the son is also the father, Shatterstar is a fan favorite but hasn’t had an actual story arc since the last installments of the X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic. As a Shatty-buns fan myself, I’m hopeful we get Gaveedra Seven and his boyfriend — the true heir of Apocalypse — Rictor, back real quick.
Verdict: Inactive
Stepford Cuckoos

Parent: Emma Frost
Last Appeared: X-Men: The Hellfire Vigil #1
Status: Alive
The Stepford Cuckoos, in various numerical configurations, have been a pretty consistent staple in the X-books since their introduction in Grant Morrison’s New X-Men. While none of them is currently starring in a series, as even snarkier Emma Frost mini-me’s and interesting characters in their own right, it’s likely only a matter of time before one or more of them pops up somewhere.
Verdict: Inactive
Rogue and Nightcrawler

Parents: Mystique and Destiny
Last Appeared: Uncanny X-Men Vol. 6
Status: Alive
Despite any and all developments or retcons that got them to their current status as Mystique and Destiny’s children, Rogue (adopted) and Nightcrawler (biological — take that, Azazel!) are main, core X-Men characters and aren’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Verdict: Active
Graydon Creed

Parents: Mystique and Sabretooth
Last Appeared: Wolverine Vol. 7 #50
Status: Dead
Graydon Creed was still somehow a recurring character up through the end of Wolverine Vol. 7. He’s met multiple ends, this time most recently as the cyborg “Bad Seed.” Now that he’s dead, maybe he’ll stay that way.
Verdict: Gone and hopefully forgotten
Joanne Beaubier

Parent: Northstar
Last Appeared: Alpha Flight Vol. 1 #106
Status: Dead
For those who may have forgotten — and most people have — Joanne was a baby who died of AIDS after the recently out-of-the-closet Northstar protected her from Major Mapleleaf. Jean-Paul Baubier adopted Joanne before she died, and there was a nod to her being in the resurrection protocols on Krakoa, but nothing came of it.
Verdict: Forgotten
Josiah Guthrie

Parent: Cannonball
Last Appeared: X-Men Unlimited Infinity Comic #101
Status: Alive
Cannonball, once interim leader of X-Force and constant presence in X-books for decades, got married to Smasher of the Shi’ar Imperial Guard and moved to Imperial space. Together they had a son, Josiah. No one seems to know what to do with this information. Cannonball and Smasher have not had a real appearance since Uncanny X-Men #700. It’s doubtful Josiah is ever going to amount to anything approaching a real character.
Verdict: Forgotten
Tier Sinclair

Parent: Wolfsbane
Last Appeared: War of the Realms: Uncanny X-Men #3
Status: Valhalla
Tier, son of Wolfsbane and her Asgardian wolf-love Hrimhari, has the distinction of being the only child on this list who was delivered by being thrown up out of his mother’s mouth and sacrificed/murdered so Strong Guy could become the King of Hell (yes, you read that right). The Five weren’t able to resurrect Tier, so it’s likely he’s sticking with his dad in the Asgardian afterlife.
Verdict: Forgotten
Davey and Sean Madrox

Parent: Multiple Man and Siryn / Multiple Man and Layla Miller
Last Appeared: Dazzler Vol. 4 #3
Status: Absorbed / Alive
Let’s all try to forget that time Multiple Man got Siryn pregnant and it turned out the baby was a Madrox dupe (Sean) that he absorbed the moment it was born. Currently Jamie has a son, Davey, with aged-up Layla Miller. It’s unlikely anyone is prioritizing this family unit unless Madrox gets more of a spotlight.
Verdict: Forgotten
Maggie Braddock

Parents: Meggan and Brian Braddock
Last Appeared: Betsy Braddock: Captain Britain #5
Status: Alive
Similar to Jamie and Layla, Brian Braddock and Meggan have their own family unit. Their daughter Maggie is at least more interesting than other little ones on this list given she possesses full command of the English language and can carry on conversations with adults. Despite this gimmick, the trio haven’t had a significant appearance together since the end of Tini Howard’s work on Krakoa.
Verdict: Forgotten
War, Death, Famine and Pestilence

Parent: Apocalypse
Last Appeared: X-Men: Book of Revelation #1 (Death)
Status: Alive
Apocalypse and Genesis’ kids, aka the First Horsemen, were major players in the Krakoan era. Since then, we’ve only seen a brief appearance of Death in the “Age of Revelation” crossover as Apocalypse’s messenger from Arakko. Oddly, the Horsemen did not appear in the AoR Finale issue. As for the 616, they’re still on Arakko (that’s Mars for your normies), which means they’re stuck until somebody decides to bring Apocalypse back into play.
Verdict: Inactive
Axel, Kara, Katherine, Jackie, Janet, Jermaine, Joseph, LaToya, Marlon, Michael and Tito

Parents: Beak and Angel Salvadore
Last Appeared: X-Men: From the Ashes Infinity Comic #25
Status: Alive
Beak and Angel have quite the flock. We last saw them in the delightful 2024 “Agent of T.H.A.N.K.S” arc of the From the Ashes Infinity Comic. Much like the Guthries, there are so many of these kids that it’s difficult to tell them apart, but as a family they’re a lot more fun. Since then they’ve been nowhere to be seen.

If the historical data is any indication, the odds of any new child of an existing X-character sticking around, especially if they are introduced as a child and not a teen or grown adult, are not high. What we see time and again is writers introducing small children who are then ignored by subsequent creators. What does this mean for the brand-new addition to the X-family, Furaha? Sorry to say that it’s more than likely she will not weather the storm.
