Uncanny X-Men #28 may finally reveal Inmate X (PREVIEW)

OK, so who do we think Inmate X is? Who’s been locked away in the basement of Graymalkin Prison, formerly the Xavier Institute, for the past two years, kept in check only by the manipulations of a dying, now dead, Scurvy?

Could it be Legion? According to last year’s Giant-Size X-Men specials, he’s supposed to have gone to the White Hot Room, though his other personalities apparently never got the invitation.

Could it be Proteus? There’s been enough continuity hiccups since 2024 that you could make a case for the interference of a reality warper, but, again, White Hot Room.

Could it be Moira MacTaggert? She appears to be playing the Charles Xavier role in the alternate version of the New Mutants’ history the Outliers have been sent to. But she was also set free to live a new life as a baseline human at the end of the Krakoa era.

Could it be Nate Grey? Any number of government/science entities with ill intent could have found his body at the end of “Age of X-Man” and kept him in stasis, trading him from AIM to Orchis to Perimeter like a Ken Griffey rookie card in a middle school cafeteria in the early ’90s.

Could it be Absolon Mercator, Mr. M, pulled back from Otherworld and held prisoner?

Or, speaking of omega-level Otherworld refugees, Jamie Braddock, for that matter?

Or, OR, could the original Inmate X have been a feint, and now it’s Charles Xavier, because Marvel has to find a way to work him back into the X-books after the Imperial-spinoff Exiles book got shelved?

Whoever it is, it looks like we’re about to find out.
