Ah, the Shadow King.
We haven’t seen Amahl Farouk in a while, not since Vita Ayala and Rod Reis’ excellent take on the character in the Krakoan-era New Mutants. Actually, not since Al Ewing and Luciano Vecchio’s Resurrection of Magneto, another good recent use of the character.
The Shadow King is very much a Chris Claremont villain – a psychic entity that seeks to possess you body and soul, that fuels hatred everywhere he goes and turns people evil and, by turns, sexy in a hellbent-for-leather way.
And here he is, likely trying to corrupt the children of Graymatter Lane like a psychic Pied Piper.
As happens, I’ve been covering Claremont-written Shadow King on the CXF bonus podcast Our Son Pete, where he’s the puppet master controlling an evil version of the original X-Men in New Excalibur. Actually, we’re about to get to the issue where his involvement is revealed. You should listen!

Iceman’s dream of bringing all the X-Men together for fun times and fellowship has backfired and left Graymatter Lane vulnerable as the teaching corps find themselves trapped on a distant plane of existence! Bad timing, as Lourdes Chantal is waiting in the wings on one side, a shadowy figure on the other – and who is Justina LaGuardia?!
